Mr Hoflehner, the current issue focuses on the
concept of longevity. What does this term mean to
you in the context of interior design?
For us, longevity in design means creating timeless
spaces. Rooms, furniture, and atmospheres that will
remain relevant and beautiful even in 20 or 30 years.
Many interiors are changed simply because people
grow tired of them – not because their quality deteri-
orates. Our goal is for our clients to receive not only a
high-quality but also an aesthetically enduring home.
This is the most sustainable form of design.
What role do materials and details play?
An essential one. Natural materials like wood or stone
have provided comfort for centuries – and that will
never change. Longevity doesn’t mean that nothing
should age, but it’s about how something endures
over time. Then there’s the love of detail: a thought-
fully executed detail continues to captivate for dec-
ades. Our clients know exactly how much care we
put into each piece. This attention to detail makes all
the difference.
Do you warn your clients about following fleeting
trends?
Social media, in particular, fuels constant hype – a
sofa, a mirror, and design objects that come and go.
It may look exciting in the moment, but often it’s out-
dated after just two years. Those who rely on trends
won’t create a timeless home. We guide our clients to
ensure their spaces remain harmonious and relevant

Advertorial
‘TIMELESSNESS
IS THE MOST
SUSTAINABLE
FORM OF
DESIGN’
Philipp Hoflehner, CDO
and Managing Director
of the international
Kitzbühel-based
company Bernd Gruber,
on materials, trends,
and longevity in
interior design.
even in 10, 15 years. Trends can be incorporated
through accessories, but the core concept and the
overall design of a room must have enduring appeal.
What defines timeless design for you?
Timeless design is that which endures through the
ages. Look at the world’s grand hotels, for instance.
They reflected the spirit of their time when they were
built, but were executed so well that they are just as
relevant today. That’s exactly our aim: designs that
are contemporary for their time but built to last,
without losing their appeal.
Where do you see the future of interior design?
The individuality of our clients will become even more
important. We believe that self-expression doesn’t
stop with fashion. It will increasingly be about express-
ing one’s personality through interior design. For this,
we create the foundation: timeless, honest designs.
Last question: What makes Bernd Gruber the right
choice?
We’re the right choice because, since 1958, we have
led the way in combining interior architecture with
craftsmanship. We are both designers and executors
– from the initial concept to the final screw, we take
responsibility for every detail. Our locations in Mu-
nich, Vienna, Stuhlfelden, and Aurach work together
seamlessly to transform our vision into reality. Our
clients appreciate this: many engage us not just
once, but return with follow-up projects after the
first is completed.
