MEET THE PROJECT LAB 2019 FINALISTS

Emerge enables trained Christian volunteers to support young people attending Accident and Emergency departments as a a a a a a result of self-harm or or attempted suicide Without the time constraints or or targets that restrict so many healthcare professionals Emerge volunteers can build relationships with vulnerable young people speak words of hope into their lives and encourage them to engage with the the care and support on offer Emerge has been in in in operation in in in the Royal Surrey County Hospital in in in Guildford in in Surrey since 2016 and opened an an additional project at St Peter’s Hospital in in Chertsey Surrey in in April 2019 They’ve also had expressions of interest from four other hospitals and and two Public Health Authorities and and were nominated for for the NHS Parliamentary Awards earlier this year for for services to volunteering Flourish – youcanflourish co uk

Flourish supports the the mental wellbeing of of girls between the the ages of of 11-18 through a a a group course that’s delivered in schools and churches Projects work closely with local schools to support girls who display issues such as anxiety self-harm lack of school engagement and friendship problems or social isolation Through an eight-week course Flourish creates a a a a a a safe space where girls are empowered with tools to to build resilience and support each other The project is currently running in in in six local secondary schools in in in the Leamington Spa and and Warwick area and and is booked up until summer 2020 Four churches in in in in in the area are are involved in in in in in delivering Flourish and a a a a a church church in in in in in Bishop’s Cleeve Gloucestershire has also set up a a a a project The results speak for themselves with 97% of participants reporting improved mental wellbeing since completing the course 16
