ing the psychological health of people worldwide. Nonetheless, bound by an oath to heal, physicians have continued to work, confronting a deadly and highly contagious illness, while the rest of the people were bunkered in homes. While probably years are needed before the mental health toll of the COVID-19 pandemic will be completely understood, the latest indications on the well- being of healthcare workers are drawing an alarming picture.
Thank you my fellow healthcare heroes for your service on any and all fronts. The year 2020 will be a memorable year for all of us. We will continue fighting this pandemic together, serving patients in our offices, at the hospitals, in the emergency depart- ment, and virtually, in your patients’ homes. To every physician among us, who is still taking on unimaginable risks, you are mak- ing huge sacrifices every single day; we give thanks to each one of you.
Physician Wellness Program
Meet Bill Hogan, LMFT
Physician wellness has become a priori- ty issue that is being addressed throughout our country. The unrelenting changes, de- manding challenges, and lack of autonomy that physicians can endure cause stress, depression, and burnout. As physicians struggle to find balance between the in- tense demands of their work and personal lives, their health and longevity, and that
of our medical community, is being threatened. The Life Bridge HCMA Foundation PWP provides a safe harbor for members to address life difficulties.
The PWP features, among other benefits, completely con- fidential, convenient, complimentary access to professional psychological services for all HCMA members.
The Bulletin will feature a PWP provider in each issue.
