From the Wellbeing Team
Dear Parents and Families,
Welcome to the new school year!
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce the school’s counselling team to you, especially for those families new to the school.
Harvest’s counselling team is made up of myself (Neridah Boraso) as the Family
and Counselling Services Coordinator, and Jayne Edwards, Counsellor and Vet Facilitator. The school’s counselling service is available to all students of the College.
Both Jayne and I are here at the College to support students’ wellbeing and mental health.
Good mental health is key to the healthy development and wellbeing of every child. Good mental health enables children (and adults) to face challenges and adapt to changes. Good mental health can also result in positive feelings about oneself and the confidence to build healthy relationships, which is something we all want for our kids!
At Harvest Christian College we are committed to implementing policies and practices that research shows can improve students’ mental health, emotional wellbeing, and overall academic achievement.
We are committed to providing a healthy and supportive school environment where young people can develop the skills they need to recognise and manage emotions, set and achieve goals, appreciate the perspectives of others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
We are also committed to increasing school connectedness, which can play an important role in the wellbeing of young people. School connectedness reflects a student’s belief that peers and adults in the school support, value, and care about their individual wellbeing as well as their academic progress.
To support school connectedness and create a healthy and supportive school environment at Harvest Christian College we:
• Provide professional development on classroom management
• Reinforce positive behaviour through praise and establishing rules and routines
• Provide professional counselling services to support the development of positive mental health and wellbeing
• Provide a Wellbeing space for students who may seek support/breaks during the school day
• Work to connect young people with community-based programs which can provide youth with a
network of supportive adults
• Provide parents and families with evidenced based resources that support positive parenting
practices
