ROPEWORK HANGING LANTERN
A highly stylised rope lantern of charming midi scale by
Adrien Audoux and Frida Minet for the École de Nice, the Classical shape composed of linked S-scrolls. French, c.1950
Adrien & Frida met during the ’40s and designed several furniture pieces in wood and rope. The duo later became part of the UAM (Union des Artistes Modernes) group in the South of France in the late ’50s. Committed to ethical design, they opened a studio in Golfe-Juan, an area known as the centre of artistic creativity at the time, a stone’s throw from Vallauris where Picasso also worked at the same time.
