In Appreciation
My story commenced with a friendly chat with Alan Mason, who has shared almost 47 years with me in my working and social life. Some would say he was my second son!
I mentioned to Alan the suggestion made by a number of my colleagues that I should write my autobiography. His immediate reaction, tongue-in-cheek, was
that they could be potential enemies! He thought it was a good idea and proposed that we should start to jot down on paper my many experiences. However as most of my insurance and social experiences in the latter years were well known to him, I suggested he could be of great assistance in helping frame my story. Alan agreed to accept the challenge. He believed it could be of interest to the family as well as those who were involved with us in their business lives.
I personally appreciated Alan’s involvement. For those readers who do not know Alan, I have given you some background about him in the chapter on Planning.
I also express my appreciation for the amount of work, research and analysis he has put in to ensure we are on the right track of being vaguely right than positively wrong.
I have been fortunate to meet an enormous range of people from all walks of life. I have relied on many others to achieve my goals and my thanks to all of you. I have mentioned many people, but there are others. To all of you whether named or not and most especially to my family my sincere appreciation, I could not have achieved what I have done without your assistance and contribution. Many thanks to you all.
