188 Opening a Workbook
The Look In list box displays the full path of the folder currently displayed in the Folder and File List box. If the folder that is currently open is not the one that has the workbook file you need to use, you then need to open the folder that does contain the file. To back up a level in the file path, click the Back button (with the left arrow) that appears to the left of the Look In list box that contains the complete pathname.
For example, say the path to the Excel 2013 folder within the Documents folder on my SkyDrive is displayed in the Look In list box as
Greg➪SkyDrive➪Documents➪Excel 2013
However, I realize that the Excel workbook I want to open and edit is in the Samples folder that is also located inside the Documents folder on my SkyDrive. To get back up a level to the Documents folder, I simply click the Back button one time. The Look In list box now contains the following pathname:
Greg➪SkyDrive➪Documents
Below, in the center section of the Open dialog box (referred to as the Folders and Files list box), I now see the Samples folder displayed along with the Excel 2013 folder. To open the Samples folder and display the workbook files stored there in the Folders and Files list box, I simply click Samples fol- lowed by the Open button (or double-click the Samples folder icon).
If you realize the workbook file you want is on another drive entirely from the one currently displayed, use the buttons in the Places panel on the left side of the Open dialog box (Desktop, Recent Places, SkyDrive, Documents, Computer, and Network) to easily open any folders associated with these buttons that contain workbook files:
✦ Desktop: Click this to display folders and folder and file shortcuts saved directly on the Windows desktop of your computing device.
✦ Recent Places: Click this button to display a list of folders whose work- book files you’ve opened and edited recently.
✦ SkyDrive: Click this button to display a list of folder and files online on your SkyDrive.
✦ Documents: Click this button to displays folders and workbook files saved in the Personal folder on the Windows hard drive.
✦ Computer: Click this button to display a list of local and network drives as well as devices with removable storage that are connected with your computing device.
✦ Network: Click this button to display a list.
