A Malagasy legend says that a thirsty traveller arrived at the village by the lake Anivorano and asked for water. All the villagers except one woman refused his request, he warned them that bad luck was coming their way. After the traveller departed, the entire village was drowned and all the villagers, except the friendly woman, turned into crocodiles. Today, the crocodiles are sacred and revered as the
ancestors of the present villagers.
