Ben Shearon (Sn 96) is still living in Sendai with his wife, Chiho, and teaching English at Tohoku University. On the side, he trains in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and runs his personal finance website, Retire Japan.
Marcus Everard (B 77) reports that he is alive and well, and living in Tokyo, while William Heywood (C 12) got in touch over the summer to say he would be in Japan on a six-month secondment at the Tokyo offices of his employer, Allen & Overy LLP, where he is a trainee solicitor. His email made me realise I'd been living in Japan since before he was even born, but hopefully I'll be able to pass on a few things I've learned along the way to make sure he gets the most
out of his half year here.
I continue to be busy following the ins
and outs of the Japanese political world in my role as a political analyst for the European External Action Service. Having to organise this year's EU-Japan
Summit in Tokyo with just a week's notice following the sudden cancellation of PM Abe's trip to Brussels and Paris made for a very intense spell in mid-July, given the usual lead time for summit preparations is two to three months. Next year will be another busy one, as Japan is hosting the G-20 Summit and all the associated G-20 ministerial meetings, which means we’ll have both Presidents Trump and Putin (among many others) in town, and all the excitement that comes with dealing with their entourages! When I'm back in the UK, I keep in regular contact with Charlie Brookes (N 88) and Marko Wilkinson (N 88), who are both in good spirits and health.
Neil Everitt (Sn 78) writes to say that the big news from the Everitt family this year was the marriage of their elder daughter, Charlotte, in July at Son Marroig, near Deia in Spain, to Robert. They will be living in Berlin, where she writes language-learning content for the teaching app, Babbel. Neil’s father, Edward Everitt (Sn 53), was also in attendance as the very proud grandfather of the bride.
James Heath (St A 63) has now retired to Cyprus, where he lives with his partner, Maggie, in a lovely villa overlooking the town of Paphos. His retirement is spent playing golf, painting, sailing his small sloop and tending to eight grandchildren.
Axel Humpert (Ldr 96) is still in Zurich, although he has spent quite some time in his UK office in the UK in recent years, working on a construction project in Aldeburgh, for which he received the RIBA national award last year. Prior to working in Aldeburgh, Axel was appointed Professor for Construction and Design at the FHNW University in north-western Switzerland. He used his trips back to the UK to catch up with Neil Trickett (Ldr 97) and

his wife, Steph. This led to Neil - along with Axel and his brothers, Per Humpert (D 92) and Christian Humpert (D 89) plus their respective children – all going skiing in Austria earlier this year.
Jon Ingall (St A 79) is loving life in Corsica. He works as a freelance photographer for various travel companies, which gives him an excuse to get out and about on his motorbike
exploring the island.
Percy Kirkman (Sn 94) celebrated
the birth of their daughter, Katie, on 26th October last year. Percy and family live in Chamonix, where he also takes part in the occasional 30-mile trail race.
Malcolm Llewellyn OBE (Sc 60) now lives near Sainte-Foy-la-Grande in the Dordogne, having previously been based in Malaysia and Indonesia. In May he had the pleasure of a visit from Roger Bambrough (Lx 55) and his wife, Sally, who now reside in Somerset. They were reminiscing about the various cement plants they built and ran with the late Mike Casey (C 50) over a 50-year period. Malcolm’s brother, Roger Llewellyn (Sc 56), is still living near Lichfield but sadly is not too well.
Simon Mennell (St A 69) reports from Ecuador, where he spends most of the year promoting bilateral trade between the UK and Ecuador - undoubtably a valuable asset with Brexit looming! His brother, Jonathan Mennell (G 72), is still working in the world of art consultancy in Italy and London.
