Tim Elliott (St A 77) bowling for Oundle Rovers in their match against the School
The Oundle Rovers team who won their Cricketer Cup second-round match at Bradfield (left to right): Martyn Dobson (Sc 00), Greg Smith (St A 07), Simon Hicks (F 07), Will Street (Sc 10), Jules McAlpine (Lx 88), Mikey Outar (L 06), Tom Bishop (F 10), George Johansen (F 11), Harry Ramsden (F 11), Oli Bell (C 05) and Patrick Foster (St A 05)
Oundle turned to spin in the fifth over.
The outstanding Will Street (Sc 10) (5-29) immediately
broke through, as he did every time he was brought back into the attack.
This encouraged Jules McAlpine (Lx 88) (1-37) to bowl an excellent spell and after 25 overs Eastbourne were behind the required rate.
Graves (2-33) produced two fine spells of slow left arm and Simon Hicks (F 07) bowled an excellent eight overs for 35 down the very strong wind.
However, Eastbourne's middle order consolidated and then grabbed the ascendancy so that they needed only 40 off nine overs with five wickets in hand.
Oundle's excellent out cricket, including the impeccable
Lowe behind the stumps, then turned the game as Hicks ran out Twine and Graves held a stunning, diving catch at short extra cover to dismiss Eastbourne's captain and top scorer, Angus Stewart (65).
Oundle’s spinners took the last four wickets for just one run to clinch a second-round trip to Bradfield.
2nd rd: Bradfield Waifs 212, Oundle Rovers 216-1
By David Pimblett (S 81)
A really wonderful ground and a fabulous performance from the Rovers at Bradfield College sealed a fourth successive trip to Malvern in The Cricketer Cup quarter-finals.
After losing the toss, the Rovers took to the field as the Waifs chose to bat on what looked a rather flat track.
Our experienced opening attack of Jules McAlpine (Lx 88) and Patch Foster (St A 05) bowled through their set of 10 overs, taking three wickets, and set the standard of restricting scoring options with the help of some determined and athletic fielding.
The spinners provided excellent support, especially Harry Ramsden (F 11) with 3-32 off eight overs, to limit the Waifs to a slightly timid innings of 212.
Most of the top order made a start, but only one managed to pass 24. The exception was Surrey batsman Gus Atkinson, who was always on the lookout for a big hit and was becoming increasingly belligerent as he struck six huge sixes late in his 91.
Two excellent run-outs by Ramsden and Greg Smith (St A 07) brought the innings to an abrupt end.
On an increasingly hot and clammy day, the Rovers made a flying start to their reply as Ramsden and Smith took boundaries off both opening bowlers, before the day's only free hit allowed the latter to crunch an enormous maximum over
