RAY
I mean, this doesn’t look a lot like him, but in a different light and if he was maybe wearing a disguise of some kind, it’s conceivable it could be him...
Let me see that...
BOB
RAY
Are you thinking what I’m thinking?
I have a hunch, yes.
BOB
RAY
Is this the Desk Sergeant? . . . This is Detective
Fortuna. Detective Vogellus and I think we have a lead
on that disturbance during the protest in Union
Square—you know, the one where those anarchists got
out of hand? We think we know who the ringleader was .
. . The name? . . .
Dreyfuss. D-R-E-Y-F-U-S-S-Dreyfuss, Albert O.
We interrogated him earlier, and he all but
confessed, He’s a real tough hombre, a regular “Chez
Guevara” . . . What’s that, Sarge? . . . You could put
down “a leader of men.” And we know where you can find
him . . . What’s that? . . . You’ll call me right
back? . . . Hey, Sarge, real quick: somebody’s gotta
do something about that intersection at the corner.
It’s dangerous. . . Okay—thanks, Sarge.
Ray hangs up. Bob beams a
wide smile at him, and Ray
nods. They get back to work.
Bob looks up and notices the
box of doughnuts on the
floor. He goes to it and
lifts the cover very
Ray hands it to him to
inspect.
He nods approvingly at Ray
and keeps doing so as Ray
picks up the phone and
speaks.
