As you read part of the intro, a note flutters to the ground. Unfolding the paper, a flash of gold blinds you, then everything goes black.

When you come to, you find yourself slumped over against one of the library's walls. The thick maze of shelves is gone, and moonlight filters in through the windows. There are no lamps or candles that you can see, nothing but moonlight. You look up, checking if the skylights are there, but all you see is a faint beam of light. It’s not even enough to reach the ground. Strange. It’s just... so much darker than it should be. Is this actually the library? Confused and slightly panicked, you decide to stay where you are. Over here, there’s enough light to see, and no one else is around. It seems pretty safe, right? The library’s drafty, so you curl up to try and keep yourself warm.
