Letter From the Editor
Dear Reader,
Welcome to the 2026 edition of North Star!
This year, like many recent years, has been hard to wrap one’s head around. With the world in turmoil and seeking to break us apart piece by piece, it may feel impossible for some to see creating art as something helpful and instead see it as a simple, guilty pleasure that helps no one. That is not true. That is why this year’s theme is “Beauty in the Mundane.”
The last two North Star issues have been taking the world’s turmoil head on, accepting art that directly weathers and resists its effects, but this year we have turned to accept the beauty that still remains in every one of our everyday lives. Creating and observing human-made art is what reminds us of our humanity and allows us to continue to resist the world's weight.
In the true vein of a literary and art magazine, we have sought and managed to put SUNY Plattsburgh’s voices together through art, piece by piece, because it is not impossible. And with the slow erosion of the [human]ities within mainstream society right now, it
