 Oncology Clinical Research
Our Cancer Center’s research efforts are led by medical oncologist, Mukul Gupta, MD, radiation oncologist, Shane Cotter, MD, PhD and surgical oncologist, Charles Conway, MD, FACS. Currently, we participate in 20 to 30 oncology trials at any given time, spanning diagnoses including breast cancer, lung cancer, lymphoma, melanoma, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer and more. Our clinical trial participation is rooted in medical oncology, however we recently formed a new affiliation with the NRG Oncology Network to increase trial opportunities and broaden our reach into radiation oncology and surgical oncology. We are preparing to open trials in these treatment areas later this year.
Additionally, the Cancer Center is in the final stages of aligning with Tempus Time Trial Network, a technology platform that analyzes molecular and clinical data on cancer patients in real time to find suitable and convenient trials. Through this program, we will be able to accelerate patient enrolment in clinical trials personalized for their molecular and clinical background.
Our Community Cancer Center
Having been at the forefront of comprehensive outpatient cancer care on the Central Coast for more than 70 years, we are unique in our ability to provide the best in cancer care for our community. We have the expertise and technology of an academic center, complemented by evidence-based supportive care programs that help those with cancer achieve a calmer mind and healthier body throughout their diagnosis and survivorship. Check out our recent Comprehensive Cancer Care advertising campaign for an overview of all we have to offer, right here in Santa Barbara.
Community Resources Hub
We have heard from some of you that a lack of access to social care resources has at times been a barrier to providing the best care possible. We wanted to remind you about the Community Resources Hub – an easy and useful source of information to address non-clinical patient care needs, with easy online access to free or reduced-cost health resources and social services, like food, housing, transportation and job training.
For most people, navigating the system to get help can be difficult, time-consuming and often frustrating. The Community Resources Hub, powered by Aunt Bertha, is a network that connects people seeking resources to verified social care providers that can serve them, making it easy for people to find social services in our community (and nationwide.) Aunt Bertha helps organizations like Sansum Clinic integrate additional social care into the work we already do. Now, Sansum Clinic and Ridley- Tree Cancer Center wellness and health education programs can also be accessed through the Community Resources Hub.
The Community Resources Hub is integrated into the Wave, to facilitate connecting our patients to resources in our community and to serve the broader trends of our patients’ social care needs.

I hope you’ll take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with this valuable tool and use it whenever the need arises.
