Our hope is that this exhibit will contribute to Prep’s continuing
efforts to forthrightly study and acknowledge its historical connection with slavery so as to promote individual and institutional actions on behalf of justice in our nation, and reconciliation
with the descendants of persons enslaved by the Maryland Jesuits.
A reproduction of the 1838 slave census blessed by Rev. James R. Van Dyke, S. J., president of Georgetown Prep, during a school-wide liturgy and placed on Mary's altar in the Chapel of Our Lady Of Lourdes.
