The Quiet American Gardener
2 x 60’, 2012, HD
In the 1880s, American Lawrence Johnston settled in the rolling hills of the English Cotswolds and created a quintessentially English garden. Today it is visited by a quarter of a million people a year. Jardin Serre de la Madone is his second masterpiece in the Gorbio Valley in France. Both are beautiful and filled with rare and exotic plants. This show offers a unique and indepth look at these gifts in gardening.

We are living in a time of enormous change, when news literally flies by us with the speed of an early morning tweet. From the changing face of America, to the upheaval of the status quo in Washington, America is in metamorphosis. What we need most to explain this uncertain era is a reckoning—an accounting of the voices and forces that represent this new America. And no one is more equipped and experienced than Jorge Ramos to explore the U.S. landscape today.

Rat Roads chronicles the unforgettable journey of a Rwandan orphan from his birth in a refugee camp in 1972 to him taking the podium at the University of Pretoria in 2011 to receive a masters degree in law. It was an extraordinary achievement for someone who had survived genocide, committed atrocities in Africa’s bloodiest civil war, and who had originally arrived in South Africa on foot, spending nights sleeping in parks and living as a street child.

This documentary celebrates the rich, cultural and environmental tapestry which makes up Papua New Guinea. Indeed, according to Sacred Ecology in the Pacific Islands, the ‘ethnosphere’ and the biosphere are a single integrated whole. The conservation value of the country’s natural and cultural assets is ultimately juxtaposed with the fast-changing reality exacerbated by illicit deforestation and dodgy developments.
