Biomimicry is the science of borrowing nature’s evolutionary adaptations and applying them to the human world. Natural blood thinners from bat saliva, anaesthetic from mosquitos, antibiotics in bee honeycomb, and cryogenic secrets from the blood of amphibians – there’s a new world to discover, if you know how to look.

Follow a year in the life of a young blind macaque monkey and its family. Few monkeys born blind survive infancy, but this youngster is now 15 months and defying all expectations. Rhesus monkeys have a complex social order. The mother, formally a queen, is now loosing her status caring for her disabled child. This film tells the story of a devoted mother, her blind son and adolescent daughter as they struggle against all odds to survive.

‘Born In The Wild’ explores the reproductive behaviours and biology of the animal kingdom. Focusing on the elephant, dolphin, kangaroo and orangutan, we take a look at how these animals find, fight for and woo the opposite sex. We explore how they mate, give birth and raise their young in extreme environments. Why do male elephants transform into sex crazed monsters during musth? How do orangutans give birth safely high in the trees? Why is the pregnancy of kangaroos so short? And how do dolphins mate at high speed?
Each year the endangered black-faced spoonbill undertakes an incredible 2,000 kilometre migration from Taiwan to its annual breeding ground and the world’s most dangerous flashpoint – the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. This film will follow the spoonbills’ journey and the dedicated scientists who, despite geopolitical divides, share one common goal: the conservation and protection of this symbolic bird.
