MISS SANTIAM CANYON STAMPEDE 2022
Hi, my name is Bailey Pedersen, I am so excited to be representing the Santiam Canyon Stampede and the Community as your 2022 Stampede Queen!
I am a Senior at Salem Academy and will be graduating this June!
My senior year has been filled with lots of moments and memories that will last a lifetime.
My volleyball team won the 2A State Championship and my basketball team was the 2A State Runner-up!
I’m excited to be able to continue my basketball career playing at Chemeketa Community College.
The Santiam Canyon Stampede Rodeo has been a part of my life ever since I was born! My family as been a part of the Stampede since it’s start. Jim Hight (Papa) is a founding member of the rodeo and lifelong member of the community. He was also recently inducted into the SCS Rodeo Hall of Fame. He taught me to work hard and be proud of supporting and volunteering for this amazing event. My Mom and Dad have also been apart since its start, which meant I was always at the grounds. Growing up at the Stampede, meant helping however I could, at that age. I have helped in many areas of the rodeo, from garbage pickup, to running ice,
to helping with mutton busting, filling in as part of the clown’s dance act, helping in the “Kids Corral,” walking in many parades through the years, and working in the VIP Tent with my Volleyball team for a fund raiser, those are some I remember off the top of my head! Of all my jobs, a favorite job, was getting to be the “Small Stuff Stampede Queen”
There was a time in the history of the Stampede, that they did a kid’s rodeo! I had the honor of being the Queen and getting to represent all the kids of the Stampede!
I think that is where the dream of being the Stampede Queen came from, riding my pony with the crown on my hat!
My rodeo passion is also fueled by Larry Unruh (Grandpa), he inspired me to follow his footsteps in the bucking bull industry, giving me the opportunity to take my bull, Exit 33, to a futurity placing 2nd.
As you can see, I have gotten to follow my dreams in many areas of my life, and I know that would not have been possible without my parents! I can’t thank both, my dad (Chris) and mom (Jamie), enough for giving me the love and support to follow my dreams!
I extremely excited to announce Friday night as Diabetes Awareness Night! As a type 1 diabetic I personally know the ups and downs of having diabetes. I was diagnosed with diabetes a few days after my 1st birthday.
I’m extremely proud to have never let diabetes stand in my way or hold me back from trying new things, playing sports or just living life.
Throughout all of this, my family formed “BeeBuggin United” a team that has been involved with American Diabetes Association for over 17 years. I am so proud of my Team, over the years we’ve raised over $30,000 to help find a cure. Please join me on Friday night by wearing BLUE for Diabetes Awareness night!
I want to thank everyone who is helping me out with horses and traveling this year, without all of you I wouldn’t be able to do it. Hopefully I will see you at other rodeos, come up and say hi!!!
I look forward to seeing you at the Stampede July 22nd and 23rd in Sublimity, Oregon for the Santiam Canyon Stampede!
