P. 123

BULLSEYE PRAYERS on seeking \[persistently\], finds; and to him who keeps on knocking \[persistently\], the door will be opened. We also need to be persistent in our pursuit of the interests of others in prayer. Persistence involves waiting patiently with expectation of what we seek, and committed to doing so until we take delivery of our request. Because we do this for the needs of others to be met, it projects that we have the spirit of sacrifice working in us, and that adds to the factors that God considers to grant our petition. There is power in persistence, especially when the substantive pursuit has nothing to do with our self-interest. The value of being persistent rises when the issue at hand is in God’s interest and not our personal, exclusive, self-interest. This is another attribute that we must work to cultivate. As we sow the seeds of faithfulness and persistence, according to God’s principle of seedtime and harvest, and sowing and reaping, we will increase in these virtues as they reproduce in us after their kind. The way to grow in them is to exercise ourselves in doing them. The way to grow in the nature of love is to make concerted effort to show love, through the help of God’s Spirit. 120.
