BULLSEYE PRAYERS Going by the example of Jesus, we ought to be praying for them as a matter of priority. Whether we like it or not, we will have to account for their spiritual welfare or wellbeing before God. Jesus took responsibility not only for His disciples but also for those of us who have been saved as a result of the work that the disciples and their successors did all through the years. God expects us to be in a position to declare that none of these people were lost while we are present on earth. However, it would be impossible to declare like Jesus did that ‘none of them has been lost’ unless we have taken responsibility to pray for them on a consistent basis. Jesus showed us that by the way He went further to offer prayers for these same people, asking that God will save them from being lost to the world and keep them also from the evil one. These people represent God’s inheritance in our lives and it is a matter of priority with Him that we bring them before Him regularly in prayer. No wonder Jesus could declare that God heard Him always! He cared a great deal for the preservation of the salvation of everyone irrespective of how close they were to Him personally. These are the kind of things, or better still, issues that preoccupied His mind all through His journey, even until the end. The unusual focus of His prayers compared with the focus of the majority of our own 124.
