NONE OF THEM IS LOST To fall into temptation is not the greatest danger that the world portends for the saints, rather it is to fall out of the faith. That is what it means to be lost to the world. Peter was saved because, although he fell in the face of the temptation that eventually came as the Lord had forewarned, he did not fall out of the faith. He was able to repent of his sin and return to the Lord. The Lord had also used the ordeal that he was to pass through to draw his attention to a huge responsibility that he had to take up once he returned to Him. The Lord told him to strengthen his brethren. He was counselled to take spiritual responsibility for others who had been committed into his hands to ensure that they do not fall and are not lost to the world also. This Peter had to do by ensuring that he prayed for them all regularly that none of them would be lost to the world. Jesus was actually telling Peter that he should cultivate the habit of ‘praying’ that none of his people will be lost to the world (in the same way that he had been a beneficiary of the prayer offered by Jesus). Peter’s spiritual condition at the time the attack was conceived and up till when it was carried out was suspect. He overrated his spiritual capacity to stand up to any spiritual challenge despite that 127.
