BULLSEYE PRAYERS His disciples. Unity is a pointer to the existence of love for one another in any community. The various attributes of love expressed in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 will necessarily result in unity between the parties involved. When Jesus was praying therefore, that the disciples should abide in oneness among themselves and between them and His Father and Himself, He was still expressing His deep desire for the love of God to be formed in the hearts of us all. The disciples all walked in love after Jesus departed. They were together in one accord, praying together, sharing food and other things together, and breaking bread from house to house. A pointer to the love of God that formed in their hearts. Their commitment to see the same love form in our hearts is well captured in their various epistles to the different churches that they superintended over. John in particular wrote on the subject of the love of God in all his three letters. He was the disciple whom Jesus had a special spot for and was fond of resting on His chest like a baby. It is not surprising that He wrote on the subject of love because he had been a firsthand beneficiary of the love of Christ. At different times Paul also wrote on love and actually prayed repeatedly that it would be formed in the hearts of all believers. He 160.
