TACOMAPROBONO COMMUNITY LAWYERS By Laurie Davenport
TACOMA TENANTS HAVE A NEW RESOURCE
For City of Tacoma Tenants who need legal advice about a landlord-tenant problem or who may be wondering whether the changes in Tacoma’s new Landlord Fairness Code apply to their situation, the Housing Justice Project now has another great resource just for you to make contact with our program.
In a further development of our awesome partnership with Tacoma Public Libraries, the Housing Justice Project is beginning a regular legal clinic for low-income tenants every other Tuesday from 1-3 pm at the Moore Branch on 56th
and Pacific—that location will change to the Main Branch downtown once it reopens following remodeling.
This photo was taken at
the first clinic in March,

Staff Attorneys Peyton
Jacobsen and Lauren
Romero and Assistant
Managing Attorney Will
Beck providing advice,
and Legal Secretary Tala
Winters keeping those
friendly faces organized
so everyone who attended could be seen.
The Housing Justice Project is particularly happy to add
this clinic to the menu of choices clients have to contact the program, since City of Lakewood tenants have been lucky enough to have Housing Justice Project attorneys available at Lakewood City Hall every Thursday morning from 9-11 for some time and it has been an incredibly valuable opportunity for everyone.
These Housing Justice Project clinics are in addition to our regular Legal Aid Pop-Up schedule – the pop-ups provide a general point of contact for Tacomaprobono Community lawyers at a variety of libraries and community centers; that schedule is always available on our website, www. tacomaprobono.org.
No appointment is needed for either the Housing Justice Project clinics or the Legal Aid Pop-Ups – just show up and we’ll be happy to talk with you!
If none of these opportunities to connect work for you to contact us, you can still meet us in person at our downtown office for an intake. Walk-in hours are 1-3 p.m. Monday-
Thursday, at both our main office (621 Tacoma Ave S, Suite 302) and the Housing Justice Project office (601 Tacoma Ave S).
The best way to connect with us otherwise is through our online intake at www.tacomaprobono.org. The telephone is the least effective way to make contact with our program, although our phones are open (no voicemail) from 10-noon Monday- Thursday.
IT’S ABOUT TIME!
It was great to see a healthy, enthusiastic turnout from our local legal community at UWT’s Philip Hall in March to celebrate
a new and significant project – the South Sound Hybrid Hub initiative between UWT and SU Law! We’re so excited to
be involved as a committed partner of both institutions in providing opportunities for students in education, experience, employment and beyond.
The University of Washington Tacoma and Seattle University School of Law have forged a new and innovative partnership to increase access to legal education and careers, and legal services, for residents of Tacoma and the South Sound region, including those from underrepresented populations.
UW Tacoma is the founding principal partner of Seattle U Law’s new South Sound Hybrid Hub. This hybrid initiative will provide significant in-person and virtual programming, counseling, networking, employment, and experiential learning opportunities and resources for both UW Tacoma undergraduates and students in Seattle U Law’s pathbreaking Flex JD hybrid-online degree program.
