contributions to this living movement.
From supporting local organizations
like the Tacoma Urban League to
participating in peaceful protests,
advocating for policy change, or
mentoring future leaders, there are
countless ways to carry the torch

would have fought then—it’s whether
you will step up now.
Because, as Wilkins Finch reminds
us, “Whoever tells the story holds
the power.” Let’s ensure the stories of
resilience, progress, and justice are
told—and lived—all year ‘round.
Connect with the Tacoma Urban
League today. Whether it’s time,
dollars, or a megaphone you bring,
Wilkins Finch is waiting. And trust
us—she’ll hold the door wide open.

Liz Ann Johnson, a local attorney who
had the honor of listening to this story
I had the privilege to listen, learn and
hold space where Desirée’s story remains
hers—rooted in resilience, purpose,
and community. I also answered the
call and my Do Something was to
begin making a monthly, unrestricted,
recurring donation to the Tacoma
Urban League.
