But others had more questions:
In a January 28, 2025 News Release, U.S. Congressman Josh
Gottheimer (NJ-5) said he sent a letter to the FAA asking what
kind of research the FAA was doing, exactly. “I'm glad the
White House confirmed today that there is no national security
threat related to the recent drone activity over New Jersey.
However, today's briefing raised new questions and confusion.
I've reached out to the FAA and asked them to immediately
clarify what they meant by ‘research and various other reasons’.
As I've been urging for months, I am also calling on the FAA to
hold a public briefing to address the concerns of Jersey families.
Why are they flying these drones over Jersey?”

On February 13, 2025, U.S. Northern Command and North
American Aerospace Defense Command's most senior leader,
Air Force Gen. Gregory M. Guillot, testified before the Senate
Armed Services Committee regarding threats to homeland
security. General Guillot said there were 350 unauthorized
drone flights over 100 military sites around the country in 2024
including Langley AFB in Virginia, Picatinny Arsenal and Air
Station Earle in New Jersey. The military does not know who is
controlling the drones which are a possible threat to national
security. He was not asked and did not tell whether there is any
connection between the drones flying over Langley in 2023 and
the drones flying over New Jersey in 2024.
On April 15, 2025, the FAA warned New Jersey residents they
would be seeing drones over the next two weeks because they
were testing electronic drone tracking equipment at Cape
May. This is a little south of ground zero where the USCG and
Ocean County Sheriff deputies first reported drone swarms

flying in from the sea. When asked if there was any connection,
however, an FAA spokesperson said the decision to conduct
drone tracking tests at Cape May was "coincidental."9
A recent CBS News poll found 78% of Americans think the
government is keeping information about the drones from the
public, and 53% of Americans believe the drones are a threat to
the country.
