Law Library Spring Update
As financial uncertainty looms and
more individuals face increasing
economic pressures, the need
for reliable, in-depth legal information
on consumer issues is more important
than ever. To help meet this need, the
Pierce County Law Library is pleased
to announce that it offers access to a
collection of books published by the
National Consumer Law Center (NCLC).
The NCLC is a nationally recognized
non-profit organization that specializes
in Consumer Law. Its’ publications
are widely respected as authoritative
resources for attorneys, legal aid
advocates, and policy makers. These
comprehensive volumes cover a wide
range of topics affecting everyday
consumers, including auto loans, student
loans, credit reporting, debt collection,
mortgage lending, bankruptcy and more.
Each book in the collection provides
detailed explanations of the legal
landscape surrounding consumer
financial issues. From statutory
and regulatory analysis to case law
summaries and practical strategies,
these books are an invaluable tool for
anyone seeking to understand and
apply Consumer Protection Laws.
Whether you're
representing
a client facing
aggressive debt
collection practices or advising someone
on how to manage student loan defaults,
the NCLC books provide the clarity and
guidance needed to navigate these often
complex areas of law.
Importantly, the information
contained in these volumes is not only
relevant to practicing attorneys, but
also highly useful for members of the
public who rely on the Law Library for
legal research. Self-represented litigants,
consumer advocates, and curious
citizens will find the NCLC resources
accessible and informative. With clear
explanations and step-by-step outlines of
legal remedies, these books can empower
individuals to better understand their
rights and options.
For attorneys, particularly those who
do pro bono or low bono work, access
to these resources can be a game-
changer. Instead of needing to purchase
an expensive subscription, practitioners
can consult the NCLC volumes for free
at the Law Library. Whether you’re
preparing for litigation, conducting legal
research, or simply advising a client on
the best course of action, the NCLC
publications offer a solid foundation to
build upon.
As our community continues to face
economic headwinds—rising inflation,
increasing consumer debt, and lingering
effects of the pandemic—it is helpful for
legal professionals to stay informed and
ready to assist clients with consumer
financial challenges. These essential
resources at the Law Library reflect our
commitment to supporting both the legal
profession and the public during these
times.
We encourage all local attorneys and
legal professionals to visit the Law
Library and take advantage of these
resources. The staff is happy to help
you locate the volumes relevant to your
needs and answer any questions about
accessing or using the collection.
Please note: due to short staffing, the
Law Library will now be closed daily
from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. for lunch.
This change is necessary to help ensure
staff safety and to maintain consistent,
high-quality service throughout the
day. We appreciate your understanding
and encourage you to plan your visit
accordingly.
