WEATHER RELATED ABSENCES
If an employee is unable to report to work due to poor weather conditions or
transportation problems, the employee will not be paid. The employee may use PTO
hours in full day increments if the manager/supervisor is contacted prior to the
normal starting time of work.
PAID HOLIDAYS
Big River observes eight holidays during the year. These are New Year's Day,
Memorial Day, July 4 th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and two floating; that
have been included into the annual PTO accruals. (Review PTO Full-Time Accrual
Rate Policy)
Office Employees
If one of the above holidays falls on Saturday, it normally will be observed on the
preceding Friday. If one falls on Sunday, it normally will be observed on the
following Monday.
Plant Operators and Maintenance Technicians
For employees that are regularly scheduled to work weekends, the holiday will be
observed on the calendar day of the holiday.
Employees required to work on a holiday will receive holiday worked earnings paid
at double time. Full-Time employees are eligible for paid holidays immediately
upon hire and will be paid for 8 holiday hours or bank 8 hours of accrued holiday
hours. (See Holiday Absence Benefit Policy)
HOLIDAY ABSENCE BENEFIT:
Employees in departments Process, Lab and Water
Big River understands the importance of time away from work. However, due to the
nature of business needs, holidays remain working days for many employees. Any
non-exempt employee that works within the Process, Lab or Water Departments is
required to work their scheduled holidays.
Instead of 8 hours of holiday pay being automatically applied on the holiday, the
holiday hours will be accrued in a Holiday Absence Benefit. This time will be
accrued and banked and allowed to be taken at the employee’s discretion, following
the Big River PTO scheduling and use policy. Maximum accruals and payment upon
termination also follow the same guidelines as the Big River PTO policy. However,
Holiday Absence hours are not eligible for use prior to accrual.
