Travel landscape: Geopolitics dampens performance
The performance of the travel industry in Europe has been hampered by several events
in recent years, including the Eurozone crisis, Brexit, the migrant crisis and terrorist attacks in a number of countries. All these developments lead to uncertainty in their own way, resulting in dampened performance.
Despite the uncertainty—or perhaps because of uncertainty—low-cost carriers have been performing well. Strong load factors, ongoing eet modernisation, aggressive route networks, seat capacity expansion and improved customer service have been major factors behind the strong performance of the low-cost segment
in Europe.
