A WOMAN OF GOD – A Social Light Inez’s faith was a guiding force in her life. She attended Calvary Baptist Church with her
mother and siblings in her early years. After marrying, she joined her husband at St. George’s
Anglican Church, where she faithfully worshiped and ensured her children were always by
her side. A devoted member of the Anglican Church Women [ACW], she actively participated
in meetings and assisted with various church activities, especially during the tenure of Fr.
Lynn as the parish priest.
Beyond her church involvement, Inez was a proud member of the Household of Ruth Lodge
and a Benevolent. She eagerly anticipated their annual celebrations, held on the last Sunday
in May or in honor of the 1st of August. She would carefully prepare her pearly white attire,
excited to take part in the grand parade. Her pride was immeasurable—her sister Anna was
the only female Patriarch, while her husband was both a Patriarch and the bandmaster. The
moment the music struck, Inez was ready. But the sweetest part was always at the end—
when they returned to the lodge hall and danced joyfully to the melodic tunes.
Inez was also a dedicated member of the Senior Citizens Group, attending meetings
regularly with her friends. There, they prayed, sang, recited poetry, plaited the Maypole, and
took part in various activities that kept them engaged and connected.
After her husband’s passing, Inez moved to Providenciales to be with her daughter, Jean. Her
sister Haze was already there with her children, which made the transition a little easier.
However, adjusting to this new life proved difficult—she deeply missed the fishing plant,
her friends, and walking from place to place. The sudden change left her feeling depressed.
Understanding how much they needed each other, the children of both sisters arranged for
them to meet on Tuesdays and Saturdays—days that quickly became the highlight of their
week.
A few years later, their sister Lois joined them in Providenciales. Despite her hearing loss
in one ear and Hazlyn’s vision problems, the two sisters communicated in their own special
way, always supporting each other. Their laughter filled the air as they reminisced about
childhood, family history, and their beloved Par and Mar.
Inez had a deep love for reading, especially her Bible, she Loved her God and every morning,
she would immerse herself in scripture, often reading passages aloud to Hazlyn. Her
knowledge of the Bible was remarkable—she always knew exactly where to find specific
scriptures. Her love for church extended beyond the services; she cherished the liturgical
seasons and reminded everyone when it was Lent, Advent, or Pentecost. She found joy in
singing hymns assigned to each season and eagerly looked forward to worship every Sunday.
However, when COVID-19 struck, attending church became too risky due to her age. This
was a heartbreaking setback—though she watched services online, she longed for the
fellowship and worship experience she had cherished for so many years. She sang along with
the service, often at the top of her lungs, and would passionately complain if her favorite
Easter, Advent, or Christmas hymns weren’t sung.
During her absence from church, Inez looked forward to the pastoral visits from Father
Douglas and Reverend Johnson, who were a comforting presence from her St. Monica’s
church family.
Inez also found joy in visiting other churches. After her Anglican services, she often
accompanied her son Randy to Abundant Life Ministries, where she reveled in the vibrant
music. In 2013, she was recognized on Mother’s Day and even won a gospel dance competition,
showcasing her unbreakable spirit. She also loved attending church conventions and Old
Year’s Night services at the Church of God of Prophecy, in South Caicos, especially for the
music. She never understood, in her words, how people could “waste music”. If she saw young
people standing still while music played, she would shake her head and say something must
