WHELMA ESTELLE HAMILTON
Whelma Estelle Hamilton was born on January 27, 1955, in Salt Cay and attended the All-Age School, known today as the Mary Robinson School, at the age of 6. Whelma completed primary school at the age of 14 and was not allowed to take the entrance test to go to high school as her parents did not allow their girls to go to Grand
Turk. Whelma and her twin brother were able to sit an examination, namely the LCC London Chamber of Commerce, and obtain passes in English and Arithmetic, thanks to Miss Mary Robinson, the principal at that time.
Years later, she
obtained a teaching position at the same school, where she was employed for three years. Whelma became a member of the Methodist Church at the age of 19, but she loves to worship at the Prophecy Church in Salt Cay. She would always travel to Grand Turk to the Youth Convention with her adopted sister Ophelia Talbot (deceased), and there she gave her heart to the Lord.
Whelma moved to Grand Turk to seek employment and was offered a job at Turks and Caicos Airways/ TCNA as a ticket agent. She really loved her job and getting to meet different people.
In 1979, Whelma married the handsome Austraham Hamilton, and their marriage produced five children: two sons and three daughters.
In 1978, she attended the New
Testament Convention, rededicated her life to the Lord, got baptized, and joined the New Testament Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Leslie Myers. With her love for children, she got a job at the New Testament Preschool as a teacher after Pastor Myers left, became principal, and served there for thirty
years.
Whelma held many positions at the New Testament Church of God in Grand Turk and currently serves as the pastor’s wife, past Sunday school teacher, Family Training Hour (F.T.H) teacher, Women’s Local President, serves on the Youth Board, and is the Director of the
Children’s Choir (namely the Joy Bells). In her last position at the New Testament Church of God, TCI, she served as the first National Women’s President for seven years.
Through it all, if it had not been for the Lord on her side, she doesn’t know where she would have been. During the pandemic, the Lord laid it on her heart to start a food drive for the less fortunate, and that ministry is still going strong after almost three years. Every month, the food drive team will go from house to house with a food basket, to God be the glory.
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily, I say unto you, inasmuch as yet you have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
