Relic of the Baptist Church Relic of the Baptist Church
RECOLLECTIONS by Lovey Forbes
I can recall the story about how he, Pa Gro, left the Baptist Church in the same year after Cornelius “Nearly” Hall came home to Kew from America, and he brought the Holy Ghost into the Turks and Caicos Islands. It was Kew where the Holy Ghost entered these Islands.
Pa Gro went to the Holy Ghost services in Kew, and he got saved. Then he built (I believe the first Church Of God Of Prophecy in Whitby before they built the Church in Kew. They called it North Church. And another one was built west of Franklin Robinson business on
Beason Street West (see image of the landmark on pg 50).
RECOLLECTIONS by Cousin Oimer
Anyway, my Uncle Jimmy, what we loved so dear; he was a no-nonsense man, he don’t
play. Uncle Jimmy, Isaiah Whynns and Nevis Musgrove, Alec Hall, the brother, they all get
together and build a church in Kew. We call it the Jumper Church. In those days people
used to “jump”. Dem days, people was hungry for God. So, I don’t know why Uncle Jimmy
those and Sammy Handfield didn’t used to get along. But they all was in one church. They
all sit on the pulpit and preach the Word of God. But them and Sammy Handfield, couldn’t
see eye to eye. For whatever reason, they did not get along.
