WELCOME
From Archdeacon Keith Cartwright
Bishop Gilbert Thompson Historical Festivities Project
Press Conference August 8th 2025My Lord Bishop, Government Officials, members of the Thompson Family, potential donors and sponsors, members of the parishes of St. Barnabas and St. Agnes, and our other sister churches, members of the Press and my fellow Steering Committee members.
Welcome to this Press Conference to announce plans to celebrate and honor Bishop Gilbert Arthur Thompson, Suffragan Bishop of the Diocese of The Bahamas & the Turks and Caicos Islands.
These celebrations were borne out of the idea of producing a one-hour T.V. Documentary on the life of Bishop Thompson.
The conversation between Laura Jane Marketing and Mr. Thompson soon mushroomed into several events to properly celebrate this outstanding Bahamian.
A committee was formed of persons with the necessary skill sets to plan and execute a project of this magnitude.
Later in the programme the various Chairpersons and Liaisons will provide information on the specific focus.
Bishop Gilbert Arthur Thompson is a son of St. Agnes and spent 32 of his 64 years as Rector of St. Barnabas.
It is the committee’s goal to celebrate Bishop Thompson in a way that will never be forgotten., and to raise funds to cover costs associated with the planning and execution of the project and most importantly, to provide monies for the Bishop Gilbert Arthur Thompson Educational Fund, which provides Scholarships for persons studying at Codrington College, Barbados.
Everyone can contribute and we encourage anyone who has been affected by this giant of a man, a model citizen, and Prince of the church, in any way, to support this project with your donations and your presence at the public events.
Thank you very much.
