Students are expected to have read or watched any assets for the class ahead of time, so that he/she can participate regularly in class discussions. Participation in their team project and the overall The Final Project Presentation will be expected at the highest level. Needless to say, the nature of the class participation depends on regular attendance. The majority of the grade will be on each student’s active participation on all levels including the frequency and the quality of a student’s contributions to class discussion. Active participation allows students to test and develop new ideas, pose discussion questions, and engage iin the kind of lively debate that generates strong, sound, critical positions about media, art, and technology. Absences:
Regular attendance will be taken and factored into each student’s participation grade. Students may miss two classes without it affecting this portion of the grade. Each class missed beyond that amount will result in a full grade deduction from the final course grade. Students should see me during office hours to make up any course material missed due to an absence or should contact another student in the course for his or her notes. I do not provide detailed catch-up information over e-mail.
Quizzes will consist of questions on the concepts from the class, in the assigned text and from discussions.
Late Policy: Unless otherwise stated, I do not accept late submissions. Any assignment will be considered late and subject to a penalty of one letter grade for everyday that it is late. Plagiarism: Academic plagiarism is using another person's words and ideas as though they were your own in the context of university writing and publishing. It is easy to avoid plagiarism: simply put the material you have taken from someone else's writing in quotation marks and cite the person's name and publication in your paper. If you are unsure that what you have done counts as plagiarism, come see me before you turn it in. Assignments that contain plagiarized material will receive an F; two such plagiarized papers will result in the student receiving an F for the course. In addition, students who have plagiarized material will be referred to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. (Note: plagiarism is not restricted to the use of published work; the passing of another student's work as your own is also a case of plagiarism.)
Technology Policy: Research consistently shows that students learn more in classrooms (measured in terms of comprehension and recall) when they take notes using paper and pen rather than laptops. In light of these findings and my own professional experience, students should keep their laptops and mobile phones stowed
