Green Seal Certi ed
Green Seal is an independent, non-pro t, science- based, standard development and certi cation body. Its mission is to promote the manufacture, purchase, and use of more sustainable products and services. Green Seal’s agship program is
a voluntary certi cation program that features a certi cation mark– an ecolabel – to demonstrate that a product or service is safer for human health and the environment. Green Seal’s agship program is voluntary certi cation of products and services to its standards.
The organization uses the Green Seal Certi cation Mark – an ecolabel – to award certi cation after evaluating a product or service. The Green Seal Mark, which is registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Of ce, is used to demonstrate that a product or service is safer for human health and the environment and has met a high level of functional performance.
Safer Choice/DfE
Design for the Environment Program (DfE) is a United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) program, created in 1992, that works to prevent pollution, and the risk pollution presents to humans and the environment. The EPA DfE program provides information regarding safer electronics, safer ame retardants, safer chemical formulations, as well as best environmental practices. DfE employs a variety of design approaches that attempt to reduce the overall human health and environmental impact of a product, process or service, where impacts are considered across its life cycle.
The three main goals of DfE are:
· Promoting green cleaning and recognizing safer
consumer and industrial and institutional products
through safer product labeling.
· De ning Best Practices in areas ranging from auto
re nishing to nail salon safety.
· Identifying safer chemicals, including life cycle
considerations, through Alternatives Assessment.

National Science Foundation
Choosing a product certi ed by NSF lets you know the company complies with strict standards and procedures imposed by
NSF. From extensive product testing and material analyses to unannounced plant inspections, every aspect of a product’s development is thoroughly evaluated before it can earn our certi cation.
Most importantly, NSF certi cation is not a one-time event,
but involves regular on-site inspections of manufacturing facilities and regular re-testing of products to ensure that they continue to meet the same high standards required to maintain certi cation over time.
Products that earn NSF certi cation are said to be “NSF certi ed” or “NSF listed” and display the applicable NSF certi cation mark to show that they have been tested by one of today’s most respected independent product testing organizations.
Founded in 1988 by the Government of Canada but now recognized world-wide, EcoLogoTM is North America’s largest, most respected environmental standard and certi cation mark. EcoLogo provides customers – public, corporate and consumer – with assurance that the products and services bearing the logo meet stringent standards of environmental leadership. With THOUSANDS of EcoLogo Certi ed products, EcoLogo certi es environmental leaders covering a large variety of categories, helping you nd and trust the world’s most sustainable products.
The EcoLogoTM Program is a Type I eco-label, as de ned by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). This means that the Program compares products/services with others in the same category, develops rigorous and scienti cally relevant criteria that re ect the entire life cycle of the product, and awards the EcoLogo to those that are veri ed by an independent third party as complying with the criteria.
The EcoLogoTM Program is one of two such programs in North America that has been successfully audited by the Global EcoLabelling Network (GEN) as meeting ISO 14024 standards for eco-labelling.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) comprises a suite of rating systems for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings, homes and neighborhoods.
Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED is intended to provide building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.
Since its inception in 1993 the U.S. Green Building Council has grown to encompass more than 7,000 projects in the United States and 30 countries, covering more than 1.501 billion square feet of development area. The hallmark of LEED is that it is an open and transparent process where the technical criteria proposed by USGBC members
are publicly reviewed for approval by the almost 20,000 member organizations that currently constitute the USGBC.
Underwriters Laboratories
UL (Underwriters Laboratories) is a safety consulting
and certi cation company. UL provides safety - related certi cation, validation, testing, inspection, auditing, advising and training services to a wide range of clients, including manufacturers, retailers, policymakers, regulators, service companies, and consumers. UL is one of several companies approved to perform safety testing by the US federal agency Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Guidelines
National Floor Safety Institute
The National Floor Safety Institute was founded in 1997 as a not-for-pro t organization whose mission is to aid in the prevention of slips, trips-and-falls through education, research, and standards development. NFSI certi cation ensures a product has passed a 2-phase testing process, proving the oor product helps to reduce potential for slip-and-fall accidents.
The Comprehensive Procurement Guideline (CPG) program is part of EPA’s continuing effort to promote the use of materials recovered from solid waste.
Buying recycled- content products ensures that the materials collected in recycling programs will be used again in the manufacture of new products. EPA compliant products include tissue (20 to
60% post consumer ber), towels (40 – 60% post consumer ber), and trash can liners (10 – 100% post consumer content).
