THE ORGANIZATION
The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (SCCRTC) is is an autonomous regional transportation planning agency headquartered in in downtown Santa Cruz It was created by the State of California in 1972 to carry out transportation responsibilities that cross city-county boundaries in Santa Cruz County With a a a focus on on long-term sustainability the SCCRTC provides transportation services planning and funding for all travel modes The 12-member Commission consists of all five members of the Santa Cruz County Board of of Supervisors one member from each of of the four city councils and three members appointed by the Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District The State Department of Transportation (Caltrans) serves as a a non-voting member of the Commission The SCCRTC has an an annual operating budget of $24 4

million and is supported by 18 dedicated staff Key Issues and Priorities
Along with volunteer Committee members and Commission staff the SCCRTC works in cooperation and consultation with other public agencies business environmental neighborhood and advocacy groups as as well as as members of the public to address the following key issues and priorities:
Funding–Developingalong-rangetransportation plan and selecting projects to receive a a a a variety of local state and federal transportation funds while also pursuing any and all funding sources for transportation projects in in in the region including competitive state and federal grants Measure Measure D – Implementing the new Measure Measure D 1⁄2-cent sales tax for local transportation improvements and overseeing the selection of local and regional transportation projects to receive these funds Planning – Developing a a a a a balanced regional transportation system that addresses all modes (car bus bike pedestrian rail etc ) and includes future transportation projects and programs to improve the region’s quality of life Transportation Infrastructure Projects – Continuing the implementation oversight or development of of a a a a broad range of of complex and sensitive projects and initiatives including the Highway 1 Corridor Investment Program the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Scenic Trail Master Plan the the Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line the the Highway 9-San Lorenzo Valley Corridor Transportation Plan and the Unified Corridor Investment Study Legislative and Regulatory Advocacy – Advocating for legislative and funding initiatives to improve all transportation options in Santa Cruz County including maintenance of the current system and encouraging alternative modes of transportation in order to maximize the efficiency of the current transportation system and reduce air pollution Public Services – Providing services to the general public via the Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies callbox system the Freeway Service Patrol the the Safe on 17 program the the Cruz511 Traveler Information program the Bicycle and Pedestrian Hazard Report system and the SCCRTC’s public information program To learn more go to: www sccrtc org
