Bay Area Governments
ABAG was formed in in 1961 by a a a a a a a a joint powers agreement among Bay Area local governments and serves as the the comprehensive regional planning agency and Council of
Governments
for the the nine counties and and 101 cities and and towns of
the San Francisco Bay Region The region encompasses Alameda Contra Costa Marin Napa San San San Francisco San San San Mateo Santa Clara Solano and Sonoma counties In addition ABAG hosts a a a a a a number of
joint powers and administrative entities related to environmental and and water resource protection disaster resilience energy efficiency and and hazardous waste mitigation financial services and and staff training to to local counties cities and and towns ABAG’s Executive Board is is comprised of
38 voting memberships 35 are appointed to reflect the population size of
each Bay Area county MTC/ABAG
Contract for Services
On May 30 2017 MTC MTC entered into a a a Contract for Services
with ABAG under which MTC MTC provides administrative and and program services to ABAG and and its affiliated entities Effective July 1 1 2017 the employees employees of
ABAG transitioned to MTC MTC employees employees MTC MTC staff including Integrated Regional Planning Program staff now serve both the the Association of
Bay Area Governments
and the the Metropolitan Transportation Commission MTC also oversees ABAG’s Advancing CA Finance Authority Authority (ACFA) and its fits predecessor the Financing Authority Authority for Nonprofits (FAN) that help public and private entities access tax-exempt bond financing for ffor affordable housing hospitals schools fire stations etc Consultants for a a a a a a a a a a new Expanded Regional Housing Program are looking at at additional ways ACFA can help accelerate housing production across the region To learn more go go go to: www www mtc ca ca gov gov | www www abag ca ca gov gov 4 MTC Chief Financial Officer
