The Position
Reporting to to the Solid Waste Director (Division Head) the Assistant Solid Waste Director assists
in in managerial functions for the planning development implementation and maintenance
of of all aspects of of the municipal solid waste management system including public outreach administration collection treatment disposal diversion recycling landfill maintenance
and and environmental compliance plans organizes integrates directs and coordinates activities of the Solid Solid Waste Division provides assistance to the Solid Solid Waste Director with work of great complexity and sensitivity makes public presentations and responds to public inquiries provides policy guidance
and maintains cooperative relationships with community groups intergovernmental agencies and City staff Under direction acts for Solid Waste Director (Division Head) in their absence Additional responsibilities include:
• Provides leadership directly directly and and indirectly supervises develops and and motivates Solid Waste Division employees ensuring an an effective succession plan • Represents the City in in contacts with with federal state county and local agencies involved with with solid waste environmental matters matters landfill issues recycling safety and and other matters matters of concern oversees waste diversion programs including contracted solid waste haulers and City crews • Works with the county and and state on

solid waste diversion issues recommends policy and and procedures to address legislated requirements and and mandates • Administers policy as established by the City Council confers with and advises Division Head on

problems related to the management of solid waste • Assists with with development and administration of the the division’s annual budget interacts extensively with with the the public • Prepares rate recommendations and and special reports and and assists
in the the preparation of the the Division budget
