The Community and Economic Development Department
was developed in in 2012 to enhance the coordination and and and integration of Golden’s forward looking efforts related to land use community and and and neighborhood planning economic development and and vitality and and sustainability The divisions in in in in the department specialize in in in in working with community community interests to achieve community community goals as detailed in in in Golden Vision 2030 their primary guiding vision vision vision for Golden’s future There are five divisions that contribute to to the the department’s ability to to move the the vision vision vision forward They include the the the Downtown Development Development Authority the the the Economic Development Development Division the the the Golden Urban Renewal Authority the the the Planning Division the the the Public Art Commission and the the the Community Marketing Program Visit Golden The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is is a a a a a special district entity authorized and directed by state statute to to benefit the the economic and community vitality of the the downtown area The DDA administers a a a a a a a robust grant system and invests in in in in many public infrastructure projects within the DDA boundaries The Economic Development Division administers and and implements small business assistance programs and and primary employment attraction and retention efforts Golden’s Economic Development Commission provides direction for ffor such efforts The Planning Division works with with citizens and and businesses to ensure that land use complies with with the City of Golden zoning regulations In addition the the division works with the the Planning Commission to modify update and and utilize the the City of Golden’s Comprehensive Plan The plan defines the the long-range goals and and intentions regarding the the nature and direction of of future development within the the City of of Golden It contains elements on

land use transportation community facilities urban design and and housing The Planning Division encompasses many aspects of developing the city we live in in in in in including business development land use issues historic sites preservation and setting community values for long-range planning The Division supports the Planning Commission and the Historic Preservation Board The Public Art Commission (PAC) has the responsibility of promoting selecting acquiring and maintaining public art in in in the the the fulfillment of the the the City’s Art in in in Public Places program The PAC also adopts policies regarding the the the Public Art in in in Golden Golden The Community Marketing Program Visit Golden Golden is is a a a a a cooperative marketing effort between the the City of Golden and and the the local retail business community that works to to promote tourism and and commerce within Golden This cooperative effort combines professional marketing strategies with innovative community vision that produces award-winning and and effective campaigns and and promotions Visit Golden utilizes a a a a a a a a a a merchant-based funding mechanism i i i i fi i i e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e the “Vendors’ Fee ” to directly benefit retail sales restaurants entertainment venues and cultural attractions through increased awareness visitation and patronage The Director provides strategic leadership management and and administration of of the activities and and operations of of the City’s Community and and Economic Development during a a a a a time of dynamic change and and growth
