Since its founding in in in in 1976 Community Transit has focused on on meeting the transportation needs of the the the people
of Snohomish County These needs have evolved over time as the the the county and the the the Puget Sound region have grown dramatically in population Snohomish County alone grew by more than 137 percent from 1980 to to 2017 according to to the U S Census Bureau Over time Community Transit has continued to to to grow and evolve to to to respond to to to the changing transportation needs establishing itself as one of the most popular and successful transit agencies in in in Washington State In fact Community Transit is currently one of the the top 50 transit agencies in in in the the country maintains the the 11th largest vanpool fleet in in in in the the nation and is an an an employer of choice in in in in our Puget Sound Region Changes continue continue for our our agency as as rapid growth in in in our our region region continues Forecasts show the region region needs to plan for 1 1 8 million million additional people
and 1 1 2 2 million million new jobs by 2050 The population of our Puget Sound region is is expected to reach over 5

2050) This growth is is leading to more transportation transformation in in our county most notably the arrival of Link light rail at at Shoreline North in in in in in Mountlake Terrace and in in in in in Lynnwood in in in in in 2024 What used to be called the “future” of of transportation is now very much a a a a a a part of of our present And we are working to ensure we we are positioned to to support this new era of mobility in our our region as as well as as our our customers’ evolving requests and expectations Some of of this work to to prepare began in in 2015 as part of of our promise to to the the community following the the voters’ approval to support growth in in in our service through a a a a three-tenths of one percent increase in in in sales tax revenue As a a a a a a a part of this commitment Community Transit ridership is is increasing and we are continuing to to to provide an an an expanded suite of services to to to customers including an an an ongoing increase in fixed route bus service Bus Rapid Transit Transit (BRT) network development vanpool program Transit Transit Demand Management (TDM) products and and services enhanced customer communications transit technology services and more THE
