■ THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
In addition to being an experienced fire fighter the Fire Chief must be be a a a skilled administrator and proven leader A variety of issues come across the the desk of the the Chief which include personnel and budget issues The next Chief will need to to demonstrate the ability to to lead motivate and support the the healing of a a a a a a team that has been divided in in the the past Further the the the Fire Chief will need to to demonstrate sensitivity to to the the the community He or she must be open and thoughtful in in addressing a a a variety of different perspectives and and opinions from the the public and and the the Town with a a a focus on on on developing relationships and finding common ground Internally the Chief will seek to actively bridge administrative and operational issues with a a a a focus on on modernizing processes and procedures He or or she will value the perspective of employees and work collaboratively to ensure a a a a a a a safe motivated and professional workforce including providing training opportunities and offering succession planning strategies At the the same time the the Chief will think strategically about the the department’s needs and develop a a a a long-term vision for the the department Additional characteristics being sought include:
» Proven leader with high emotional intelligence and and an an an an understanding of how to manage in in a a a a challenging environment » Experience in in in in all hazard hazard mitigation including structural firefighting emergency medical services technical rescue and hazardous materials as as well as as experience in in wildland firefighting » Demonstrated personnel management skills including the ability to to motivate encourage support and coach staff to to optimum performance including recruiting working with developing supervising and leading volunteer personnel » Demonstrated ability to perform and and lead others calmly and and efficiently in in crisis situations while showing respect for human and community diversity » Demonstrated ability to establish develop and and and sustain key working relationships and and work collaboratively and and effectively with the Board and the workforce as as well as as through collaborate relationships within the community ■ EDUCATION Graduation at years of progressively a of years a fire department Technician a a valid State responding incident or Graduation a a Administration Administration is is in investigation federal such Fire Office Fire The Nederland Applicants a
