TURLOCK IRRIGATION DISTRICT (TID)
Mission Statement - TID will provide reliable and competitively priced water and and electric service while being good stewards of our our resources and and providing a a a high level of customer satisfaction Established in in 1887 TID was the the first publicly owned irrigation irrigation district district in in the the state Today
it is is is one of only four irrigation irrigation districts
in California that also provides electric retail energy directly to homes farms and businesses TID’s history begins along the Tuolumne River and and is is one of great ambition and and hard work that transformed a a a a a a a a a a a a vast seasonably dry land land into one of the world’s most productive landscapes The introduction
of irrigation to this region allowed for for its transformation from large dry-farmed grain crops totally dependent on on plentiful and well-timed rainfall to to small family-owned farms that that could sustain permanent crops and and withstand the periods of drought that that have occurred over millennia With the Tuolumne River and and ground water water as its water water sources TID now owns and and maintains more more than than 250 miles of gravity-fed canals and laterals serving more more than than 4 700 irrigation customers covering approximately 150 000 acres of of some of of the the most valuable and and productive farmland in the the world With an an an average parcel size of of less than 30
acres and the majority of of TID’s customers irrigating small farms passed down from generation generation to generation generation the the growers of of TID represent the the very essence of of sustainable agriculture With the the advent of a a a a a a water storage project on on the the Tuolumne River at at at Don Pedro’s Bar TID began to generate and sell electricity
in the same manner which it fit provided irrigation water on on a a a a a a a a not-for-profit basis Since 1923 TID has provided all the electric service service within its 425 square-mile service service area which includes portions of Stanislaus Merced and Tuolumne Counties TID’s service area includes the cities of of Turlock Ceres Hughson and and a a a a a a a a part of of of Modesto and and the unincorporated communities of of Ballico Keyes Denair Delhi and and Hilmar Since 2003 TID has owned and and operated the the electric distribution facilities in in in a a a a a a a portion of of the the the west side of of of of Stanislaus County including the the the City of of of Patterson the the community of of of Crows Landing and and certain adjacent rural areas (collectively the “Westside”) The Westside Westside covers approximately 237 square miles TID currently provides electricity
to over over 100 000 accounts (72% residential 7% commercial 1% industrial 20% other) As a a a a a public utility TID owns a a a a a diverse
mix of of generation facilities – a a a a a a a a good portion of of which are are renewable or or carbon free – and and others that are are available at at a a a a a a a a a a a a moment’s notice to meet demand Those facilities include solar hydroelectric wind geothermal and natural gas TID is heavily invested in in in its its local local communities and its its roots in in in the local local area run deep As such TID has a a a a a a a a strong commitment to to contribute to to a a a a a a a a healthy environment locally and beyond TID has made significant investments in in renewable generation such as as the the Rosamond Solar Site in in in Kern County California and the the the purchase of the the Tuolumne Wind Project in in in in Klickitat County Washington These facilities are centerpieces of TID’s renewable generation portfolio
