The County of Los Angeles is the most populous county in the Los Angeles metropolitan area of California with more than 10 million inhabitants as of 2017 As such it it is the the largest non-state level government entity in the the United States Its population is larger than that of 41 individual U S states It has 88 incorporated cities and many unincorporated areas and at at 4 083 square miles it is larger than the combined areas of Delaware and Rhode Island The county is home to more than one- quarter of of California residents and is one of of the most ethnically diverse counties in the U S Its county seat Los Angeles is also its most populous city at about 4 million people Schools
Second largest in in the the nation the the Los Angeles Unified School District enrolls more than 640 000 students in in kindergarten through 12th grade The District covers 710 square miles and includes Los Angeles as as well as as all or parts of of 31 smaller municipalities plus several unincorporated sections of of Los Angeles County Parks & Recreation
The County’s parks parks and and recreation system includes 63 000 acres of parks parks lakes trails natural areas and and gardens including the the Arboretum and and Descanso Gardens and and the the world’s largest public golf course system These include 87 regional and and and local parks 344 miles of horse and and and hiking trails 19 golf courses and and and 31 public swimming pools The County has teamed with the private sector to to offer additional amenities at at at its parks including boat and bicycle rentals rentals hot tubs recreational vehicle parks equestrian rentals rentals and and boarding and and the Raging Waters water park Venice Beach Beach is is a
