EDUCATION & ACTIVITIES
Eight pillars of service represent the mission of the Senior Resource Center in promoting independence and quality of life for seniors in Jo Daviess and Stephenson County. Education and Activities is one of these pillars. We are excited to report to you that both of our new locations provide more meet- ing space and easier accessibility open- ing up opportunities to expand our activity and educational events.
The newly offered exercise class in Freeport is both educational and fun. This class is professionally taught and designed for seniors. There will also be a coloring class starting this month in Freeport. We enjoyed a Senior Spelling Bee and painting class in April. We hope to host more social and fun activities. Watch this newsletter for the activities of the month and continue to tell us what other events you are interested in. We are listening!
Education happens every day and every moment at the SRC. The staff and volunteers are always learning so they can relay current vital information to you. You can count on the Senior
Resource Center to answer your questions relating to Medicare, Medicaid, senior benefits and community resources. They can also help you learn about available assistance for yourself or guide you as you help a loved one. You can find out how to protect yourself from exploitation and get safe confidential advice from Adult Protective services.
Watch the Rolling Stone for a listing each month that may include Medicare Basic classes, Safe Driving classes and special speakers delivering medical or financial information. The Hanover office will be the location of a “Powerful Tools for Caregivers” class starting May 11. The Stroll-a-Palooza will be held July 23 at Oakley Courts in Freeport. This was previously known as the Stroll-a-Thon but this year it will be held outside and include fun activities like a pet parade, good food and music. There are many sources of information that will be rep- resented at the annual Senior Resource Center EXPO. This year the EXPO will be held Oct. 14 at the Eagles Club in Freeport.

When you
visit the
Senior
Resource
Center in
Hanover, you
will be greet-
ed with a
friendly smile.
Jeanne is one
of the vibrant
volunteers
who serves as
a receptionist
and supports
the activities
and staff
there. She is a
former
employee of
the
Robertshaw's Hanover plant, working there for 32 years. Jeanne is currently taking online courses through the University of Dubuque to become a lay pastor. She will be preaching at the Hanover United Presbyterian Church for the summer. Jeanne is married to Dan Ohms and has two married adult children and five grandchildren.
When Jeanne is not studying she enjoys making people laugh with her clowning and balloon making. She has
enjoyed attending several clown camps and balloon work- shops. She finds Clowning and putting smiles on the
faces of children very rewarding. One of her favorite sayings is “Children come in all shapes, sizes, colors
and ages”. Jeanne has discovered that balloons are not just for young people and that the people in the
nursing home enjoy balloons just as much.
Since the closing of the Hanover Robertshaw plant, Jeanne has been able to pursue two of the things she enjoys most; serving God and making
people laugh. Volunteering at the Senior Resource Center has also been a joy for her and
certainly a joy to the SRC. Thank you Jeanne for all that you give and for keeping us smil-
ing.
