Introduction Why?
Are the tides changing for
Blacks, Latinas, and Other
People of Color (BLOPOC) in
the field of technology? If not,
why? Well, according to a study released in 2020 by Google, the racial divide still exists and the culprit points to the fact that “There aren’t enough skilled members,” or so they say.
However, not all is lost according to tech leaders. “...in 2016, 8.6% of graduates with a bachelor’s degree in computer and information science were Black and a little over 10% were Latino, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. Even though more BLOPOC are graduating with technical degrees, the “industry perpetuates a system of gate-keeping that is almost designed to keep investors BLOPOC.”
