“Captain” Judy Bright was one of the greatest relationship builders
in our history. In December 2018, we lost Judy to cancer. Judy began her Y career at Camp Seafarer in 1970 and eventually became the Camp’s Director, positively influencing generations of young people
by setting high expectations and teaching them the importance of investing in personal relationships. During her tenure with the Y, Judy served in a variety of roles including Executive Vice President of the YMCA. Her leadership helped us navigate a period of rapid growth and establish the Y as the Triangle’s leading nonprofit.
Judy’s keen focus on the future led to the development of the Heritage Club to ensure long-term sustainability of our YMCA. Her personal passion for service led her to establish the Judy Bright Endowment. She named the
Y as a major benefactor of her estate. The earnings from her investment will be used to help future generations of children in underserved communities participate in Y programs.
Tens of thousands of campers, staff members and volunteers at the YMCA have reaped the benefits of Judy’s guidance. Thousands more will benefit from her investment in our YMCA.
We are thankful for Judy’s leadership and her support of our future.
