HOME FOR CHRISTMAS SUMMER SHADOW
Home for Christmas is a Christmas classic song that was released in 1943. Rumor has it that the crew of the Battleship of North Carolina were expected to still be overseas during Christmas. One soldier had an idea to collect $5 from every crew member who had a child back home. He sent money along with addresses to a department store to provide gifts for the crew’s families. To give back to the soldiers, the department store made a suprise video with their wives, children, and loved ones to show to the soldiers on Christmas. The iconic Christmas song still is played today carrying on it’s story.

MAYBELLE MASON JAR
A local farmer had been struggling for a while just to get by. He soon realized he wouldn’t be able to give any Christmas gifts to his children. Waking up at sunrise and working til dusk everyday, he prayed for
a sign. One day he sat on his porch looking out at his elds and heard something crying from a distance. As the noise got louder, he realized it was a mother cow stuck in his fence. He immediately helped and freed the cow, but when she tried to walk, she couldn’t. He went and got his truck and took her to his farm. He cared for her daily until she was good to walk on her own. As the farmer took the cow back where he found her, he realized tomorrow was Christmas. Saddened, he walked into the house looking at his children with nothing to give them. All of the sudden, his kids looked outside to see it was snowing out! They ran outside to go play and saw in the distance a cow. They ran right to her. The kids screamed asking “Can we keep her?!” The farmer immediately knew it was the one he cared for and told his kids that they could keep her. Soon then, the farmer gave her the name, Maybelle.
