A ‘Week of Goodness’?
For Goodness’ Sake. Trust the Jews to Think of That
the plight of the 116 hostages still being held in
Gaza, nine months after their abduction on ”

“ I wrote this short piece for my blog site and shared it on social media, seeking to highlight
October 7. It was picked up and highlighted by the online publication of a US-based Christian bible ministry, Sisters in Scripture.
Trust a Jewish Israeli couple, parents of a hostage in Gaza, to launch a ‘Week of Goodness’ in the midst of unimaginable parental suffering.
I first read about it in the newsletter of an Australian synagogue, and then in The Times of Israel: ‘Rachel Goldberg- Polin and Jon Polin are launching a “Week of Goodness” campaign, with the hope that extra kindness, good deeds and generosity in the world could help bring about the release of the 116 hostages remaining in Gaza, among them their son Hersh Goldberg-Polin’.10
According to Jewish tradition, acts of loving kindness can redeem and humanise the world.
10 Update: Less than two months after this article first appeared, when Israeli soldiers drew near to the Polins’ son, Hersh, and five other hostages, to rescue them, the hostages were executed by Hamas.
