largely muted or, in some cases, acting as a microphone for Hamas’ anti-Israel ideology.
We can debate the war—how it should be conducted, who is to blame for what, and the root causes of intractable problems relating to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. But on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, as on October 7, reverent space should be given for grieving the unspeakable antisemitic crimes committed against innocent Jewish, men, women and children, and for hearing the insights of Jews whose lives are forever lacerated by the memories of the Shoah, now relived through the experience of October 7.
Many more things can be said—about numerous complicated, challenging issues. But this day, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, is not the time.
