P. 2
Welcome from Judy
We are so fortunate to work with talented, dedicated, and compassionate Clinicians at the Sydney Adventist Hospital. The photo on the front cover features Prof Brian Owler AM, Dr Dennis Wang and Dr Ali Gursel, just after they each presented at San Innovations 2024.
This event which showcases innovations in surgery, technology, and medical research is growing in scope and popularity. And each Clinician shared inspiring insights into the innovations that are impacting and improving their ability to serve our patients and the wider community.
Another significant community outreach program featured in this newsletter is the Girls in STEMM event held in July this year. The San Foundation had the great pleasure to host over 200 Year 10 and 11 students from nine local schools in the San Clinical Education Centre. Ten esteemed female clinicians found time in their busy schedules to share the story of their career trajectory and encourage these students to pursue their interest in Medicine. Feedback from the schools and parents was overwhelmingly positive and so this will now
be an annual event on the San Foundation calendar.
We have also introduced Behind the Scenes Tours at the San, to give our valued supporters a unique opportunity to observe the innerworkings of the hospital and hear firsthand from the clinicians who provide lifesaving care each day. The Behind the Scenes Tour also features the significant impact philanthropy has at the San,
as each Nursing Unit Manager explains how and why the support of donors to the San Foundation has improved the level of care that they can offer to their patients.
We should all be proud of the impact that our collaborative efforts have at the San, and
the arrival of new equipment is often cause for celebration. The Triage Chair in our Emergency Department was in disrepair, and we received an urgent request
for funding for this vital piece of equipment. Thanks to the support of a generous donor, the new Triage Chair arrived, and you will see on page 7, the staff knowing that this new equipment is going to improve the patient experience was cause for much celebration!
Another new program that is gaining popularity is our Hearts of Gold Bequest community. Leaving a gift in your Will is a very personal and very important decision,
and we are so grateful to those members of our community that have chosen to support the San as part of their legacy planning. Brett Goods and I are proud members of the Hearts of Gold community, and you will see us donning our Hearts of Gold pin each day, as a tribute to the important decision we have each made to leave a gift in our Will to the Sydney Adventist Hospital.
We hope you enjoy this newsletter, to keep you updated on activities at our beloved San, as well as provide a snapshot of the many ways that supporters of the San Foundation make an impact on our ability to provide world class care to our community.
My warmest regards,
Judy Tanna
