hard struggle and everyone had loads of fun. It was bonus to win the game by 1 run (bring it) against the team that was previously undefeated and later won the Grand Final.
Cricket is a team sport and success is only ever earned as a team, however we do practice individual skills all the time, so it is good to reflect on individual results on occasions. During the spring season every girl that batted more than twice posted a new high score. Three girls went on to better their high score in the summer comp as well. Six girls also posted their career best bowling figures this year.
Better than all of the results was the way we warmly welcomed three ‘brand new to cricket’ team mates that like the rest of us are looking forward to more cricket next year.
Christina Phillip – U13 Coach
The 2017/2018 spring season started off fantastic with all new players coming through and giving it their best for their first game that ended up in a great win. Straight away I could pick out some natural talents such as Trinity with her great batting and bowling skills, Aliya with her accurate wicket taking, Grace with her wicket keeping, Tuvini with both her batting and bowling, not to mention she also hit a six! And to all the girls really who all had different talents in them.
The spring season ended well with the girls being able to make it to the finals against Parramatta. Unfortunately this game got washed out giving Parramatta the win but I am sure the girls would have given it their best.
The summer season went under away and two new girls, Sandy and Aadya joined the team. Both enthusiastic and eager to learn all about cricket. Though unfortunately the girls couldn’t break through
to achieve a win during the summer season. In saying that they all fought hard and gave it their best. By summer it was easy to notice that all the girls had improved like Olivia with her bowling from going to
3 bounces to 1 bounce. Halle very good accuracy, Sandy improved with her calling during her batting
and she took some great wickets with her well improved bowling, Aadya always keen to get out on the field with her bowling and batting coming good, Tuvini’s bowling one word, amazing, Aliya always taking wickets, Trinity and Grace excellent batting/wicket-keeping, Sahana’s brilliant bowling, Ayesha well improved in her batting, Izzy splendid batting and bowling, Caelon with her improved batting and Sophia a very enthusiastic young talent in both bowling and batting.
Overall this season was fun and enjoyable to be a part of. I loved being their coach and to see all the girl’s smiles reminded me of when I used to play for this club. Hopefully they all continue and show people their wonderful talents.
We had 8 players represent HKHDCA in the Margaret Peden Reps team this year, namely Danielle, Ellen, Amy Harkin, Amy Hale, Ragini, Jess M, Lauren and Esha. 13 girls recently tried out for the 2018/9 Reps season where teams will be playing in the U13 and U15 competitions so hopefully we will have a good number of girls make the final squads. We also now have a number of girls looking at playing Brewer Shield U17 and above as part of their journey which will hopefully see many of the girls continue playing long into the future.
We wound the season up with a Presentation Day at James Henty Oval which ended with a huge game of cricket involving parents as well as the girls.
Congratulations again to Lily for her outstanding season culminating in winning the Lisa Sthalekar trophy and to Mal Hall for winning the Volunteer of the Year award this year.
My sincere thanks to Mal, Ant and Christina for Coaching the teams, to Veronica, Kylie and Anand who were the Team Managers and to all the parents who helped with all the other roles that need to be done to ensure that the girls get to play cricket.
